While the company's former Chief Design Officer reveals his new third-person shooter project, Electronic Arts plans to expand the Battlefield franchise into a connected universe. ARC Raiders is now available to wishlist on Steam and is slated for a 2022 release. Players trek through lush environments in the dead of night, and high-explosive weapons tear through enemy androids. The trailer's fast-paced gameplay sees a group of players fight off a swarm of flying robots, and a day-night cycle is also teased. The first project from Patrick Söderlund's ambitious studio seems to be set in a post-apocaylptic sci-fi world run by rival factions. Despite this key figure's departure, Battlefield 2042 had the franchise's second-best launch amongst a divisive and controversial release. When DICE was acquired by Electronic Arts in 2006 Söderlund was moved into a management position, working as Chief Design Officer at EA before leaving in 2006. He was also involved in the development of the Frostbite Engine, which has been implemented in the creation of titles such as Mass Effect: Andromeda and NHL 22. ![]() ![]() While Embark Studios' first release appears to be a third-person shooter, Patrick Söderlund's most famous work has been done on the Star Wars Battlefront and Battlefield first-person shooter series.
